Was the word ‘Beatlemania’ coined in Gloucestershire?

It was more than 50 years ago but the gigs The Beatles played in Gloucestershire are committed to many memories of gig-goers at the time – but where did the term Beatlemania come from?

It’s been claimed that the word used to describe the hysteria which followed the Fab Four everywhere they went was invented in Gloucestershire, after a gig in Cheltenham.

  1. Hello Richard,
Harold here…..I have a question for you. I have been searching for an answer to this since 2013 when I saw something mentioned on TRACK Beatles Memorabilia. It stated that some things were from the Collection of Sue Cavenaugh. So I enquirerd about it. I asked about it and all they said was “Her daughter was selling off her mothers collection.” They couldn’t comment further. Do you know what happened to her? I wonder if she passed. I was a volunteer worker at Wings Fun Club for 3-4 years (73-76) and last I heard from her was she was moving to France with her husband.
Do you know if she is OK? I moved so many times since I last heard from her.
Same with Murial Housman of Dark Horse Records! I was in steady contact with her and she told me she was moving to Hawaii and then Dark Horse LA closed just as I moved to San Francisco. I have volumes of letters from both Muriel and Sue.

Just was wondering if you’ve heard anything on them.

You can email me at montydaman@aol.com or on my facebook (under my message box).

    Thanks in advance.
    Harold Montgomery
