Marylebone Town Hall to Re-open for Weddings

Old Marylebone Town Hall will re-open for weddings in early 2018. This historic building on the Marylebone Road saw 3 Beatles’ weddings: Paul married Linda here in March 1969; Ringo married Barbara in April 1981; and Paul married Nancy in October 2011. Many Beatles fans have got married there too  – including yours truly, who married Irina there in June 2004!

The building has been closed for a few years for complete renovation, and has just re-opened with part of it being the London Business School. The Registry Office will re-open early next year.

Tommy Steele seen On London Beatles Walk

Walkers on my London Beatles tour had a nice surprise today when we saw Tommy Steele go into the London Palladium. Showbiz legend Steele has appeared the the famous theatre more than anyone else, and was being filmed by ITV for a documentary on this iconic venue. They also filmed part of my talk – so I hope that’s included too!

At the end of the tour, we saw James McCartney in St John’s Wood.

‘The Teacher’ the Tony Sheridan Story

I’m just reading a very good book called ‘The Teacher’ The Tony Sheridan Story. Author Alan Mann came on my London Rock Walk, and kindly sent me a copy of the book.

It is a very interesting read, and taught me a lot about Tony I didn’t know. For instance, did you know Tony spent a lot of time in Vietnam in the late 60s, entertaining the US troups?

Tony came on my London Beatles Walk a few years ago, he was certainly a character, and talked very warmly about his days with the Beatles.

The book is available on Amazon at https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/cka/Teacher-Tony-Sheridan-Story-Alan-Mann/0957528507/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1500628649&sr=1-1&keywords=The+teacher%2C+tony+sheridan

#PeaceAndLove to Ringo Starr in Studio One at Abbey Road Studios Today!

Just back from wishing Ringo ‘Peace and Love’ on his birthday in Studio One at Abbey Road.

We were allowed in at around 11.45am – around the studio were many keyboard instruments used by the Beatles on their records in the studios. Behind the stage were placards with ‘All You Need is Love’ on – similar to those used on the ‘All You Need is Love’ ‘Our World’ TV broadcast -that was broadcast from this very room 50 years ago last month.

Giles Martin (an unexpected bonus!) introduced the event, and told how important Abbey Road was to him, not the least because his mother and father first met there! We were then given a nice speech by Mirek Styles of Abbey Road, of the history of Studio One.

Jonathan Clyde of Apple then introduced a recording of Ringo giving a countdown to 12 noon, when everyone said ‘Peace and Love’ and did the peace sign. Jonathan then played the video of the Beatles ‘All You Need is Love’ broadcast. It was very emotional seeing and hearing this in the very room it was filmed in.

Thanks to Irina PorterBarbara Simpson and Paul Endacott for sharing the event with me – and to Cathy Hawkes from Apple for inviting me along.

Wish Peace and Love to Ringo on his Birthday INSIDE Abbey Road Studios! – an Update

Update – we think only 100 people will be given access to Studio One – so arrive early!

Come together for a moment of Peace & Love at Abbey Road Studios on Friday 7 July, as part of Ringo Starr’s annual Peace & Love Birthday Celebration. Abbey Road Studios are inviting a limited number of fans into Studio One to participate in a live Facebook broadcast of the ‘Peace & Love’ message.

To access this event, you will need one of Ringo’s ‘Peace & Love’ bracelets, available for free exclusively from the Abbey Road Shop. Bracelets will be available while stocks last on Friday 7 July starting from 9.30 am.

Ringo also invites everyone everywhere to think, say, or post #PeaceandLove at noon their local time, thus generating a wave of Peace & Love that moves over the planet on July 7 starting at noon in New Zealand and ending at noon in Hawaii.

It’s very apt the event is in Studio One, because it’s in there on June 25th 1967, the Beatles recorded ‘All You Need is Love’ in front of a worldwide audience of 400 Million people, for the worldwide TV broadcast ‘Our World’.
