‘Mad Day Out’ Photo Session 50th Anniversary to be Celebrated in London

Calling all Beatles fans!

On a warm July 28th in 1968, 50 years ago this month, The Beatles went on ‘The Mad Day Out’, a phrase coined by now legendary photographer, Tom Murray. One of the iconic locations visited around London that day was Old Street roundabout, the exact site on which the Magic Roundabout bar and club now stands. 50 years on Tom Murray returns to the site with his book about ‘The Mad Day Out’, featuring the photograph that has inspired a new sculpture.

To commemorate this famous moment, we welcome you to the Magic Roundabout 1pm – 3pm on 28th to celebrate the anniversary on which the fab four were last photographed together.

With the redevelopment of Old Street roundabout, this will be the last summer in which The Magic Roundabout stands and attendee’s last chance to see the plinth in original form.

On the day:

– See the miniature sculpture inspired by Tom Murray’s photograph
– Tom, the man himself, who will be selling and signing copies of his book
– Enjoy live music from top covers band; The Fab Twins who’ll be playing acoustic covers from The White Album
– Have your photo taken with replicas of the famous Beatles statue in Liverpool
– Enjoy food, drink and sunshine courtesy of Magic Roundabout
– FREE ENTRY – get your free ticket via the ticket link here.

At 85, Yoko Ono Plans New Album For Peace.

www.yahoo.com/news/85-yoko-ono-plans-album-peace-184555991.html
New York (AFP) – Yoko Ono on Tuesday announced that she is releasing a new album at age 85, saying that her li felong message of peace was sorely needed in 2018. “Warzone,” which will come out on October 19, will revisit songs penned by Ono since 1970, concluding with “Imagine,” her seminal pacifist anthem with her late husband John Lennon. “The world is so messed up. Things are very difficult for everybody,” she said in a statement. A statement from her representatives added: “It is not too late to change the world. We need Yoko now more than ever.” The Japanese-born New Yorker made clear that “Warzone” was not a swan song, saying that she is working on another album. The album’s 13 tracks, produced by her son Sean Ono Lennon, are rearranged to strip back the music, bringing to the forefront Ono’s voice in the vein of spoken word. With the album announcement, she released a new take on the title track, which appeared in Ono’s 1994 musical “New York Roc k” about her life with Lennon. In the 2018 version, an elephant roars and percussion kicks in like a gun as Ono describes a scene of violence over echoing reverb. “If you hear me, please help us!” she concludes. Ono, who grew up in Tokyo and New York, had become a rising figure in the musical avant-garde when she met Lennon and became his second wife. The couple famously used their honeymoon as a “bed-in” to protest the Vietnam War. She has remained active in peace causes and in preserving Lennon’s legacy after he was assassinated.

Paul McCartney at Abbey Road -A Review

Jon Colegrave was of the lucky winners that attended Paul McCartney’s ‘Secret Event’ at Abbey Road Studios. Printed with his permission, here is Jon’s story of an incredible day:

What an amazing amazing day i got to spend with my sister MelanieColegrave and lots of new friends…
For anyone thats interested , heres our day.
We hung around outside to see paul come in at about 9am, the band arrived early and then paul slowly came over after a few photo shoots over the crossing….
then a very easy line set up to let winners into abbey road, they held a refreshments party in the courtyard , lots of food and drink.
All bags and phones were locked away as its being filmed and recorded for a spotify special… so we have to wait to see our excited faces 😃
A bit of celebrity spotting in the garden then at 2pm we were escorted into studio 2. A big stage was set up and place was already full of spotify staff and celebrities, who had kindly left front row empty, so guess where we headed….
There were only 20 ticket winners and the other 60 odd were guests, the winners were a lovely bunch.
Ive never been closer at a gig…
Nile rogers came over to chat as we waited and was joined by endless others… johnny depp, liv tyler , orlando bloom, kylie minogue, stormzy, etc etc , they were next to us in the crowd with stella and mary, everyone was mingling together.
Paul and band walked down the stairs from george martins control room and jumped on stage.
They started with a long blues jam that sounded great…
Then matchbox, then the setlist that has been posted..
He sounded great and was having fun, chatting with us, came over to read my wings over wembley badge after juniours farm, he smiled gave a thumbs up and winked, not that he had to come far, i could almost touch his shoe…je was showcasing the new album thats out in september, and we got 4 new songs, 3 of which had there world premieres today !!
Come on to me already sounds like a staple,
Confidante has the line about under the staircase, he said it was written for a guitar he had neglected, an acoustic one, with interesting bits near the end, i loved it but need to hear the real version to truly get it.
Who cares, was a rocky track about children being bullied, theres one hell of a hook, i think it was my favourite.
Fuh you…. its rude, in the hi hi hi way, not political, its just about taking her to bed, to ‘ fuh you’ …. seriously its dirty lol.
He played lady maddonna on the original.piano sitting in crowd…… 1985 was amazing, he got tearful during love me do, as first time he had played it at Abbey road since 1962….. too many highlights, helter skelter had us almost on stage…..
After show we got to mingle and chat, johnny depp gave me a hug, and i got to tell kylie she was my teenage fantasy…..
Then goodie bags on way out, stickers, lithograph and a shirt

[Thanks so much to Jon for allowing us to share his amazing story]

Paul McCartney ‘Secret event’ at Abbey Road Studios Tomorrow

Paul McCartney’s ‘secret London event’ will be at Abbey Road Studios on Monday 23rd July. I was outside the Studios at lunchtime today, and saw huge cameras being set up in car park. Then, this evening, many crates of equipment were being taken into the studios, with the MPL logo clearly displayed.

As yet, I don’t know the time of the event, or what actually is happening. However, as cameras were being set up in the car park, it seems that at least some of it will be outside the studios.

More when I get it :>)

The Beatles’ ‘All You Need is Love’ set to become children’s picture book

All you need is a talented illustrator to turn songs into picture books!

Two new children’s books are set to add pictures to the lyrics of The Beatles’ John Lennon and Paul McCartney.

On Thursday, Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing announced that it will publish two books aimed at kids reimagining songs by the Beatles as picture stories. The series will begin with the band’s iconic hit “All You Need Is Love,” and will feature illustrations by Marc Rosenthal (A Child’s First Book of Trump).

“This timeless song rings true now more than ever,” said Valerie Garfield, Vice President and Publisher of Little Simon in a statement. “We feel there is always a market for books about hope, and John Lennon and Paul McCartney have written songs that resonate with parents and children who want to look at the world with hope and love.”

Paul McCartney to give ‘Secret Event’ in London Next Week!

Paul McCartney has announced that he will hold a ‘secret event’ in London ‘next week’. Fans are asked to send a video to say why they should be invited to attend – with the hashtag #UnderTheStaircase

There is already speculation on social media on where the event will take place – the place that is guessed about the most is Studio 2 at Abbey Road Studios – where there is a staircase leading up to the control room. Another possibility is the 100 Club, where Paul played in December 2010. It’s in the basement of a building and accessible by a staircase.

We will of course bring you more news when we get it!
